Actually, it isn't. Michael made $80 million last year so he donated 1/8th of his salary for the year. I know I couldn't afford to donate 1/8th of my salary. It's all relative folks like it or not.
Anyways, very nice of him and goes to show that there are still generous people out there.

Simply looking at it as 1/8 of his annual salary is oversimplistic. If we'd been making tens of millions of dollars beyond what we needed to live comfortably for years and years, then we'd all be in great shape to make a big donation as well. Unfortunately, most of us don't make that much in excess of what we need.
That having been said, $10 million is a shitload of money for anyone, celebrity or not.

I don't know if he gave specifically to the tsunami victims, but the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has an unbelievable endowment -- $27 billion.
