I test drove a brand new RL that felt pretty good, then I drove one with 4.5k on the clock and it already felt beat, shifting was sloppy, with a few rattles and creaks, and the power seemed lackluster. I just can't see this thing ever coming close to the S in terms of overall quality and longevity. The once fresh look of the car has lost it's charm, I don't really give them a second look anymore. No regrets, the S is a better car, period, and has the track record to prove it.

I looked at the Solstice when shopping for the S2000. There was a Pointyack dealer next door to my Honda dealer. I really wanted to like the car. But it was obvious that the Kappa's were just another platform rushed to market by a desperate company taking the easy way out. Again.

The few reliability issues I remember about the car are...
Differential failures. Repeated failures in some cases.
Gasket leaks at the windshield and trunk. Trunk makes a nice little Koi pond.
Design issues...
Stone age top.
Plastic fantastic GM interior.
Cheapo suspension from the GM parts bin.
Chassis designed to a price point rather than a vision.
Zero storage space (see also, neolithic top)
The good...
Ecotec 2.0L I4 Turbo is a nice little engine. Dunno about lifespan. It is a GM.
Styling. Both the Sky and the Solstice were very nice looking.

The chassis is largely the same as the Corvette's chassis. I can't see much wrong there aside from the price point not allowing for the split gas tank used in the Corvette which would free up some trunk space and the Corvette getting the more expensive leaf spring vs coil springs.
I disagree about the interior but that's opinion vs opinion. The top has it's limitations but it also hides away when folded. Looks very nice when down. The storage space is an issue and personally I think the interior storage space is a bigger issue than the trunk space.
Not trying to fight, just asking about the chassis and suspension.

Ok this is easy .
Saturn Sky
Pros- Looks very good and eye catching and has some cool unusual colors.
Cons-
1. Look who made it
2. Consumer Reports rates it as "Much Worse than Average Reliability"
3. Used car dealer had one and said it had a ride that was barely
better than a covered wagon. Bounces all over the place.
4. No real trunk space.
5. Hard to use top.
6. Read the last two sentences from Spud Racer!
7. The new Camaro is another example of GM mediocrity - Nice
looking car but do you really want to deal with the 68 documented
problems the car has? You really want to trust these people with
your money?

Cheapo suspension? I guess unequal length double a-arms with coil-over shocks are cheap nowadays? Technical drawing of the suspension.

And a cheap chassis? Here's a nice technical drawing of the full frame boxed chassis the car utilizes.

All I must say is this:
The Solstice/Sky are pretty good looking cars.
I've met a Sky Redline owner before, but he drove an automatic tranny Sky, so he couldn't explain to me about the fun-to-drive ratio of a Sky Redline. The car still looked good, though.
I wouldn't mind owning a Sky Redline or a Solstice GXP... As long as the S2000 is still available as a daily driver.

Take a look at the Solstice Hardtop instead? Did they actually produce it? I know I LOVED the concept look...add a sky front end instead, and I'd be all over it.
The engine is GREAT. Its like a miata engine - lots of cheapy mods to get faster than a stock S...if thats what you want. Overall, I think the S is a more practical car though - the softop/trunkspace is probably the biggest thing I have heard people complain about.
I was totally going to purchase one if I couldve found one in my price range tho, so no complaints and no flames here if you do get one.

The S has, electric top, trunk and a spare tire.U can even put the flat in the trunk and close it.That's just the short list.I could forgive this if it were a better car because then it would be quite something but it just isn't.
