I don't really know where you get that GM does not know how to make a "smooth" 4 cylinder engine. The Ecotec is arguably better than anything Honda is producing right now and is certainly one of the best 4 cylinders on the market.
Now, what would kill the Sky that I saw is the 18" wheels that look like they should be on a rapper's Cadillac. Those things have to weigh a ton! Having 245 tires all around must be nice though. Seemed to be room to fit even more rubber under it too!

The RAV4 has similar torque numbers. No idea what the curve looks like, but to assume a turbo is somehow out of place in one car and denotes inferior "capabilities" yet somehow a perfect fit and denotes superiority in another application is nuts.
Which is the better "sports car" application -- the motor with very little torque at any RPM and very little horsepower outside of the last 20 percent of the revs -- or the one that has a nice fat long torque curve -- with ample torque and horsepower.

Peak power doesn't determine a lot, it's the entire powerband. Face it, you guys are worried that you're going to get beaten by the Solstice/Sky that is probably a lot easier to drive faster than our S2000.
Beating them is simple, though. It's nothing a 4.77 gearset can't take care of. Nighty night GM.

Bingo. You guys can't compare "apples and oranges" here. One car is NA, and one is turbo for a completely different reason. A turbocharged S2000 and supercharged S2000 may make 300 rwhp, but you can be sure the turbo one will eat the sc one for breakfast.

Lets not modify or demodify a stock car. Once you start debating
on if one car has this or has that it changes everything.

Want to keep it oranges to oranges and apples to apples?

So the S2000 is still faster, even though the Sky GXP makes almost twice as much torque? Way to go GM.
MSRP is around $30k for those.

You're very right, but to the people who are worried about losing to a Saturn, it's nothing that 1300 dollars cannot take care of. That's the only point I am making.

The Sky Redline and Solstice GXP are capable vehicles. Can't wait to see one run at an autoX.

The sky redline will be boosted, a simple reflash and youc an say nighty night Honduh
All in all, I think a S2000 with a comptech blower at 5psi will put out about the same numbers as a Sky/Solstice turbo with an upgraded turbo. Cost would probably be similar, too.

Pricing is $27.800 for the "base" Redline, which has every option available except the Monsoon stereo, leather, spoiler included for that price.
I am eager to see the performance numbers, Grassroots motorsports claimed a 0-60 of 5.5 seconds, and they claimed with better rubber and a broken in engine 5.3 is possible. Automobile tested the GXP at 5.8 but they don't account for rollout.
Turbo runs at 20-21 PSI since its direct injection. Also can run on 87 octane with the direct injection.
Granted these numbers are similar what Toyota was doing in 90's with the Toyota MR2 Turbo (especially the Gen 3 engines with 245 hp). Better late than never GM.
