Just like Ferrari owners don't have to decide between that and purchasing more "functional" vehicles... maybe that's the same with the GT3.

But with the GT-R the selling point is the cost and value. If I could actually get one for MSRP, I'd get one over an S5 and happily pay the ~$10k extra.

07 GT3s were $125k
04 GT3s are now $70k
That's >$15k depreciation per year.

It'd piss me off knowing I was paying ~$1500-1800 per month in depreciation / interest / insurance for a car I couldn't drive months out of the year.

I'd give up a few tenths on the track for some actual use out of the car.

This is my argument for AWD over RWD for the sedan and AWD over RWD in a Porsche that is more daily driven than heavily tracked.
that's why i'm trying to move to california.

well, on the serious note-
i'd rather have a car that i can truly enjoy and cherish when it's the right time,
than a car i don't really have a passion for and drive it like it's just an everyday appliance.

if the depreciation was an issue i would have bought another house instead of a car.

my argument for rwd over awd?
of course the most important reason-
jusy beause i like it more.

the reason why people think gt3 is a track car, is beyond me.
but hey, i hope so too.

If they cost the same, the 911 turbo. I actually feel for track stuff the turbo will be cheaper after the initial price. I like the turbo's looks a lot better.

The Porsche is the true drivers car and I would take it everytime over the GT-R. Personally speaking, any "supercar" that doesn't come with a manual transmission is missing the point, and is geared more for sales to rich old people rather than drivers. Sure the new paddleshift transmissions can shift incredibly fast, but it's not worth the trade off in my opinion.
manual shifting is fun, but it's not everything a car can offer when it comes to driving experience.

i would gladly trade it off for better overall experience-
lap time, engine control, car-driver connection.

Porsche 12 vs GTR 7

I thought this would have gone the other way.

For me definitely the Porsche, looks better inside and out, sounds better, and has a manual.

Well, more power to you!

People have different priorities.

I would rather drive a car that I love all the time than a car I LOVE sometimes and a car I HATE other times.

But I'm old and happily married, so I guess that fitting.

I wouldn't be happy with the GT3 + Corolla combination.

But seriously, having a GT3 and never taking it to a track is like saying you're in love with girl and you've only kissed... oh wait, I guess that happens sometimes.

911 TT for me. Both offer performance capabilities beyond my skills (& more importantly, ability to use them on public streets), so the differences to me would be largely academic.

A CS w/ a 3.8 X51 transplant and LSD might be even more tempting, though.

[QUOTE=seung,Dec 19 2007, 09:58 PM] why wouldn't you be happy with the combo of "a car you really love + a true beater"?

sure i can go buy, say... rs4, tomorrow if i wanted to and call it a daily driver.
but now that really would be stupid, if we think about your initial argument-
depreciation, insurance, interest (if i financed it...), etc. on an unnecessary nice daily driver.

so for the daily, i bought the cheapest piece of "reliable" junk i could find.
like i said before, an appliance.
hence the corolla.

only thing i don't like about the combo?
how people change their attitude depends on which car key i grab in the morning.
the nuance of your reply shows that well too.

but unlike you,
i'm still young and happily single, so the combo fits me perfectly,
and i'm perfectly happy with that.

i dunno, with all that sarcasm and effort to dig up old pictures...
for some reason i think you are just being a bit bitter about my choice on cars.
i didn't buy this car to get a porsche, but i bought the car to get a car i really liked.
do you think i made a poor choice?
do you think if i had an awd porsche, that will be my only car and i'd be happier?
if my life style bothers you that much, i'm sorry my friend.

... and finally, why do you keep saying "never taking gt3 to the tracks" regarding my car?
of course i'm so eager to bring it the tracks.
unfortunately i only got the car towards the end of summer, so i missed 2007.
i promise i'll bring it to the track when the season comes back, (or when i finally find a place in california...)
but if you really want me to bring it RIGHT NOW that badly go ahead and find me a currently open course in the new england area.

it's rather pointless arguments to me now,
i think we should move back on to 911 turbo
