maybe you missed the part about the S5 trapping the same as an e46 M3 ? If the S5 was RWD... it would have a slower ET at the same 105 mph trap speed... meaning, its top end/trap speed has not suffered at all...
The S5 has 20 more HP. C&D has two times for the E46 M3. 13.1 @ 105 and 13.6 @ 105. The latter time being the more recent. So why would the M3 be half a second slower and still have the same trap speed? You can find the answer in my previous post.

The first of those times may very well be an exception, but these cars do have different gearing as well as rated power that needs to be taken into consideration.

trap speed is indicative of a cars power.

E.T is indicative of a car ability to accelerate and cover a distance.

traps are a better figure to look at if your looking to see what kinda power a car is making.

for example, my MY02 s2k ran 13.8@100.8 stock. after some mods i was able to go 13.57@105.9. my E.T was lower cause i couldnt get outta the hole and start accelerating quick enough to lower my E.T. this is why traps are a better factor to measure power, cause no matter what happens at the start of the run, your trap speed, no matter what your E.T is can still tell you how your cars running.

Cars with low E.T low traps.

Mazdaspeed 6. 13.9-14.0@96-99
03-04 Evo. 13.1-13.3@99-100
04 STi 13.3-13.5@98-99

Cars with high E.T high Traps

S2000. 13.8-14.2@100-101
03-06 350Z. 13.7-14.1@100-102
05+ Mustang GT 13.7-13.9@102-103
06 RSXS. 14.8-15.0@95-96

that is why look really have to study a cars 1/8,1/4,trap to see what kinda power and powerband it has. theres alot you can tell about a car by looking at a time slip.

when i see a 13.1@105 by an AWD car, i see a bogged launch, or slow shifting. the 105 trap indicates that the car had the power to run 13.0, which it showed perfectly. what it shows me, its that the car is a good sprinter, but will run otta breath on the top end.

Wow, I didnt know EVO's had such lousy trap speeds. And to think I wouldnt even try to bother with one when were rolling. I guess I'll have more of an urge to pull on an EVO while were going a good pace....

evo traps at more like 103, IIRC.
Scot?
C&D got 103 trap
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showt...0042&hl=evo+103

I'm pretty sure Scot himself got around a 13.4 at 103.XX.

Evo is faster then 99 mph trap speed. I know a lot of evo guys that have trapped in the 102-104 range with stock cars on stock tires.

edit: I didn't see you were saying 03-04 evo and not the evo IX, my bad. I have an evo IX and I can't really tell the difference in looks between the 8 & 9

S5 also has more weight...and we all know an AWD car has more drivetrain loss than a RWD car... so those things average out... the 13.6 number by the M3 is the exception.. 13.1 is an agreed upon achievable ET for an E46 M3... the car has hit 12.9 by pro drag racers... so, this is why i see the S5's trap speed as being where it needs to be in the 1/4 mile...

gearing is definitly a factor... the M3, continues to pull like a freight train past the 1/4 mile... i have no idea how the S5 will pull later...

I have a hunch the Audi will run out of breath after the quarter, after all you said it yourself, it is putting down less power than a comparable rwd car, in this case the m3.

Do you go to USF?
