105mph?

the RS5 would probably trap around 112mph then...a bit more than RS4 and around the same as the e92 m3

Hmm, something doesn't seem right about those numbers... As fast as an RS4 with 70 less HP? I know Audi isn't exactly conservative in their HP ratins, but jeez.

I'd still take a 335 for 10k less with better handling, equal acceleration, and much more modability.

ok, so fast down low and then loses steam?

(in a simplistic nutshell)
Mommy jokes aside, German cars aren't known for their weak top ends. BMWs and Mercs really open up after 70-80 MPH, so if the S5 holds the German tradition, it would be a slow bottom end, with a head rush to the finish line after 60-70 MPH.

You're missing the part where the Audi is AWD and what his comment is referring to.

^ but then explain the outcome?

if it's boogying out of the box, then it must be losing steam to have a 1/4 at 105.

so THIS german must NOT have a strong top end.

this one is really strange, man....13.1 @ 105 with AWD launch....it boggles the mind.

Yes you are correct, the Audi has no top end. It losing steam is very evident by the low trap speed. A car with a high trap speed, has poor standstill acceleration but high top end.

For example a GTO (heavy car), it has a relatively slow quarter mile time for its power, but its trap speed is quite high.

The Audi is heavy, but that is mostly canceled out by its AWD launch which helps it get a great time, but its trap speed suffers.

Basically if you were to race two cars (high vs low trap) from a roll (gearing the same), which have a similar quarter mile, the car with the higher trap speed will win the sprint.

Another example: Take an EVO which has AWD and about 280HP. Now take a heavier RWD (350z) car that has the about same power. In this example 99.9% of the time the RWD car will have a higher trap speed for the reasons mentioned above.

Look at the Evo time compared to 350z.

EVO: 13.5 sec @ 103 mph

350z: 13.7 sec @ 104 mph

or check out the MS6 and Impala SS

MS6: 14.0 sec @ 99 mph

SS: 14.2 sec @ 101 mph

Wait so the A5 goes up against the 335i and the S5 goes up against what? Audi confuses me. There is an A5, S5, and RS5???
Audi's A5 goes again BMW's regular 3 coupes (i guess 335i in this case)

S division always went up against BMW's M division .. but now its different. Being that the S division was always behind the M division .. i guess its safe to say the ///M3 nestles in between the S5 and RS5

maybe you missed the part about the S5 trapping the same as an e46 M3 ? If the S5 was RWD... it would have a slower ET at the same 105 mph trap speed... meaning, its top end/trap speed has not suffered at all...

for some reason 105 trap doesnt seem all that impressive to me.

i just wish i could get into Audis, sadly as much as i hate to say it, BMW wont have much of a fight with this car.
