S4 vs M3 *Which would you buy*
#21
I used to own a 2000 S4 and even after driving the E46 M3 when it came out, I still prefered my S4. With a chip and exhuast, the old S4 can beat the new S4 and just edge out the M3. There's even an article in Audiworld.com that put the old S4 in different forms against the new S4.
I'd choose both the old S4 and new S4 over the M3. The old S4 is more fun to drive and mod, the new one is a much nicer car. The small difference in 0-60 or 1/4 mile isn't worth it to me. Plus there's nothing like Quattro in the rain.

I did the whole high strung engine thing with the S2k. Give me the grunt and effortless ease of a large, unstressed V8, thanks.
Not to knock on the M3. Its a neat little car. The next one should be sweet.

I debated about getting one of these two cars for quite a awhile and then just got a third car (S2K) instead. I think these cars are close enough in performance that it almost always come down to the driver unless its wet, then the Audi is in a class by itself. A topgear video posted somewhere has the S4 lapping their dry track faster than the M. This is the same video that has them neck and neck in the 1/4 that someone mentioned. I think the choice has to come down to what type of experience do you like. The Audi is smooth and fast, the M3 is raw and fast (read possibly more exciting). Bottom line, I don't think you will go wrong with either pick.

Oil changes for my M3 are covered under scheduled maintenance. Of course, that is about every 12,000 miles. I usually get it changed on my own, between the scheduled ones. I think the most I have paid for an oil change, using the 10w60 oil, is about $65.
Also, I have never had to add a single drop of oil into my engine (19,000 miles so far).

I would buy a M3 6 spd.

Because it's probably the best GT car that can seat 4 reasonably well under 60k. 333hp, 4 seats, 3400 pounds, 50/50 weight distribution vs 340 hp, AWD, and 3900 pounds O_O Which would you choose?
