S4 vs M3 *Which would you buy*
Well, if things go well for in the next 3-6 months, I have narrowed down my next car to the two above. I'm just having a hard time picking. I know a fair a mount about bmw's, but have never owned an Audi. Can owners tell me the +/- of each car.
Also, I found a used m3 that just seems too good to be true: '2004 BMW M3, convt, w/hard top, 6 spd, Harmon Kardon sound, heated seats, 19" whls, Cold Weather pkg, almost brand new, only 200 mi, $55000, '
TIA

Not to complicate your decision, but if a stick is not a must for you, I'd take a look at the C55. I'd rather have that than an S4 auto. Also, I, personally, do not like the M3 vert. Too heavy and too much compromise to the structure. I'd definitely go coupe if you are looking for an M3 (also cheaper). Anyway, drive em all and get what you like best. No bad choices in this group.

I agree with Brian (above), but that is probably because we went to college together.
The M3 convert is a very heavy car. I have an '03 coupe and absolutely love it. I didn't even consider the S4 when I was shopping, but I did go and drive the C32. However, after the quick test drive I eliminated it because it just floated all over the road (of course, I have that same opinion of all Mercedes that I have driven, including the SL55). The C55 is guaranteed to be a rocket ship in a straight line, but if it has the same electrowhatever braking system as the SL55 I would pass. It just takes a lot of the feel away from the car.
Also, if I am not mistaken, I seem to remember one of the car magazines doing a great comparison of the S4 and M3 under both wet and dry track conditions. I am pretty sure that the M3 was quicker in both scenarios.
I would probably guess that the S4 has more creature comforts, but if you are into performance (and getting out to the track) I would go with the M3. In the last year I did about 10 days on the track in my M3 and I don't recall seeing a single S4 out there.
Test drive everything and go with what feels best to you. It doesn't matter what we all think, it only matters what you think (since you are the one paying for it).
Good luck,
