Default S2k vs. F-Type

Just read the review of the 2016 Jaguar F-Type in Car and Driver and they had this to say about its manual transmission: "Overall, we’d call the gearbox action good but not Honda-great."

Honda-great ≠ S2000 great. These days (2015) I'd assume they're talking about the stick in a 4-cyl Accord, which has long been a CD favorite.

There have been a few quotes on car magazine sites by professionals that the S2000 Gearbox is regarded as the best of all times. Even a Porsche magazine commented on the 911 gearbox being good, but not S2000 good... I think I have a picture of that comment floating around somewhere.

I don't think I've ever read it as "the best of all times". That's a bit of a stretch. I did see in a C&D in '09 where they said it was the best gearbox you can buy for under $50k. I still have that issue.

I've read multiple articles referring to it as the Godsend of manual gearboxes. Which it is. I've driven and owned tons of manual cars and none compare even remotely other than the 5-speed Miata box ..

Guess you haven't been around as long I have or read as much
Multiple times I have read that the S2000 gearbox was the best or one of the best ever made...

I believe that is the review the Topic Starter is referencing. It mentions Honda, but I didn't see any mention of the S2000. So the subject isn't really S2K vs. F-Type. It's more like just F-Type.

It's pretty safe to say the S2000 had the best or one of the best shifting gear boxes of all time. It's certainly the modern benchmark of manual's since the S2000.

I think a lot of people perceive that a lower cost car company like Honda cannot set benchmarks in pure performance like a Ferrari, Aston, McLaren, Porsche etc. can... The Gearbox and Engine and even the highly rigid open top chassis on the S2000 were all benchmarks.....

But the reality is that Honda is just as competitive and exceeds these other companies on some levels... it is their business model that differs.
The F20c engine as I mentioned and referred to many times is known to be one of the best NA engines EVER MADE...... Regardless of price of car..... I think that is pretty cool....
