For the record my C6 that has been beat on daily and now has 20K miles on it has been perfect. My Dad's C5 has been bulletproof in 70K miles.

Hence proving the old "YMMV". Although overall stats are still poor. Still this gives me hope for the '08 which I am considering trading to especially if they increase HP as rumored.

YMMV

isn't it also rumored that the '08's MSRP is gonna be real close to $100K ?

In the 5-years I owned the S2000 (an '00 which was its first year) the car was in the shop for an issue exactly twice. Both fixed within 24 hours. The Vette is not even playing in that same reliability universe.

Of course, YMMV.
YMMV is right. My S2000 has been in the shop more times than all the cars I have owned in thirty years put together (leaving out one POS VW), while my son's C6 after eight months of hard street use and a couple of track days has yet to see the shop.

CR uses a survey of subscribers to rate autos; I give it very little credibility.

So did he drive the Vette yet?

I'd like to raise my hand for another problem free Vette.

I'd also like to ask the question of why no Z06?

When I looked for my vette, I knew I had to have a electron blue Z06, so my choices were very limited. But overall I still looked at alot of Vettes just for kicks and as a whole, the Z06's had less miles and were better cared for. The Z06 didn't tend to be daily drivers such often as C5's (especially autos), and were more pampered by owners (kinda like Cobra vs Mustang GTs).

When taking those things into account, the base C5 price wasn't that much more than the Z06's I was looking at. Really low mileage, mint condition C5's with Z51 option and a few of the other things that are standard on the Z06 were very very close to the Z06 in price.

YMMV = Your Mileage May Vary.

The $100k tag you quote is for the "Blue Devil" version, should they actually make it. The regular C6 and Z06 I am sure will be priced close to what they are now with the expected year over year small increase.

As I said, I am not going to debate the merits of CR. I only brought it up because someone else tried to use it, incorrectly, to say the Corvette was considered reliable.

I am going to go out on a limb here, and maybe you will tell me I am wrong, but I'd bet that the S2000 turns out to be statistically much ahead of the Corvette on the reliability scale. Of course that doesn't mean that there aren't lemon S2000's or bullet proof Corvette's, but as an overall average I wager the S2000 is more reliable. Of course looking purely at the C6 might not yield a full picture seeing as how much younger it is than the S2000. Time will tell.

That's sounds just about right.

My S/C'ed S2K had almost no problems in the 3 years that I owned it. The only thing that broke was the diff that split in half but that was because the car was S/C'ed.

I had to bring the Z06 into the dealer 2 months after I purchased it for a very slowly leaking rear diff.(common issue from faulty seals), pass. side power window motor, and driver side power lock module. All the repairs were covered under factory warranty at the time, but that made me purchase GMMP extended warranty when the factory warranty ran out earlier this year. Which paid itself off already because I got my fuel pump replaced under warranty when it wasn't keeping up with the nitrous. The motor is still solid as a rock, with 450+ rwhp NA and time will tell with the N20.
And on the other hand, on my S2000 I've had to replace my entire transmission because of a second gear grind on EVERY shift once warmed up, getting in and out of 1st gear was very difficult until I replaced the clutch with an aftermarket one, one of the rear wheel bearings failed, the inner CV cups pitted and had to be swapped side-to-side, the window regulator was replaced (it wasn't allowing the windows to go all the way down during top operation,) and the top is developing wear holes. Oh, and I'd guess I'm missing about 50% of the retainer clips that hold all the plastic bits together (undertray and wheel liners) on the front of the car.

But I still love the car and have no plans of getting rid of it.
