I've heard the manual shifter in the SLK is so bad most people prefer the automatic.
The manuals shift very regular. I was happy/satified with manual SLK's I drove over the years.

Oh good, I'm glad that's the case.

Well, the SLK was quite a disappointment. First off, it had a mixed set of tires, running some bad Michelins in the front and some god-awful Sumitomos in the rear. When a car has that kind of setup, it really makes you think that the previous owner did not care about the vehicle and probably didn't take great care of it mechanically. Also, the badges weren't in the right places, which immediately made me assume that it has probably been repainted (and most likely wrecked). So I quickly marked that off the list.

I also went and drove a new 2-series, but I wasn't blown away by that. It's (obviously) far more expensive, but not with enough benefit that I felt like it was the right decision for me.

So I finally ended up with a 2015 FR-S. I first drove a used 2013 with 50k miles. The used one was cheaper, but because of the difference in interest rate, the payment on the new one was only marginally higher. Scion doesn't budge much on pricing, but I did get them to throw in the TRD lowering kit which will drop it a little more than an inch. From what I've read, this is about the perfect stance for this vehicle, and it will be covered by the factory warranty.

This really is a great community. I know the FR-S/BRZ twins don't get a lot of love around these parts, and that kinda surprises me. I'm extremely happy with mine, particularly because it reminds me so much of my old S2K. Much thanks to everyone who weighed in and offered their thoughts and advice. It helped make me very happy and confident in my final decision.

Can't complain on a new car and the FR-S is suppose to be a well handling car. I think you made a wise decision. Enjoy your new car!

Congrats on the new car! And the FRS/BRZ love issue shouldn't really be a mystery - there are several threads that all go on for pages about why people love or don't love these cars.
