Personally, if I had to have a convertible, it would not be a 911. If I bought a 911, it would be a coupe. If you want a convertible Porsche, I'd say go with the Boxster S.

Have you looked at the Lotus Esprit? No idea how they are but they look amazing! Definitely more "curb appeal" than a Boxter/Cayman or 911 Carrera. The TT v8 sings quite a nice song. The only issue I hear with them are the Renault gearboxes, but I doubt it's as bad as people put it. I think Amer used to have one, maybe pm him for more info. There are quite a few cars that are overlooked, you have enough time to sort through all of your choices and pick the best one.

I drove a friend's Esprit V8:

I wouldn't pick the Esprit over a modern Porsche.

The engine sound might have been because it's a flat plane V8 rather than a cross plane.

An acquaintaince at work bought one way back in the late 90's. It catastrophically caught on fire not long afterwards, putting an early end to the Lotus dream.
