if you want a drop-top get the s2000, also does insurance and maintenance matter? MPG is about the same. hmm idk if i had to choose and i could afford both i would probably get the porsche.

I honestly would probably get the CaymanS...they dont happen to have the same engine as the boxster tho, do they? (no drain bolt. wtf?!)
I honestly dont know much about the CS but have only heard great things about how they drive..

factor in maintenance and repair costs for that porsche... 640 is steep for a car payment... dont forget 300 dollar oil changes and 1,000 for a pair of rear tires every year. plus repairs bbecause your well out of warranty.
i would imagine in terms of driving the cayman is a blast compared to our lowely s2ks... ive driven the 08 boxster S when i was looking at porsches which uses almost the same drivetrain ( like 10 hp difference) and it was a blast and i loved it.
if your well aware of the cost of ownership of that porsche go for it, but if 640 is anywhere near a stretch of the budget i wouldnt even consider it because of the cost of ownership.

No comparison. Cayman S is superior in every department even though it weighs slightly more.
But I would take a 2007 Boxster S because I love drop tops.
The 2007 Boxser S has exact same engine and tranny as the 2006 Cayman S but with the advantage of a drop-top. Plus it is likely to have less mileage and be as expensive as a 2006 Cayman S.

Had an s2k before my cayman s, and there is no comparison. If you can afford it, get the Porsche
(unless having a convertible is high on the priority list, in which case a Boxster S would do the trick)
To correct some of the misinformation I've seen on this thread:
Maint. - not exactly cheap, but not all that expensive either. Figure one oil change per year, ~$100 DIY, $200-230 @ a dealership. Air filter every 40K, plugs every 60K, not much else on the maint. schedule ex. the typical inspections.
Both the Boxster and the Cayman have drain bolts, not sure where that comment came from.
In my experience, tire wear wasn't any worse (and prob. better) than the S2000. New PS2's ran ~$700 for a set of rears. @ 14K when I sold it, the fronts were still doing well.
Out of warranty repairs will be more expensive, but it's a high quality car, and they seem to hold up well given adequate maintance and avoiding the track w/ R compounds (the oiling system on the Gen 1's doesn't withstand high g forces too well).

If you can swing a $240 increase in monthly payments, I think this isn't even a discussion to be had... Cayman S, hands down... (unless top down is an issue).
As far as the maintenance goes, this spring, maintenance was in the $400 range for oil, brake fluid, and some ecu update... it's steep, but what you get in return for the car is absolutely incredible...
