AP2. The Boxster is a wanna be car for 911 dreamers and lacks soul imo.
The 986's might be a different story (never driven one), but I think that the 987's are much MORE soulful than the s2000. I just feel so much more connected to the car than I did with the s2000, and that's a pretty big statement, considering that I didn't think there was anything out there under $100k that could touch the s2000 in that department

That's a no-brainer: Boxster all day long for me. I've owned the S2000 and Cayman and know you cannot compare a Honda to a Porsche unless you're looking for a track car.

I'd pick the S2000 for me. Just because I daily drive the car and have to street park it often. Lots of door ding potential, outdoors 24/7, lots of miles, etc. It's a cheaper car to maintain and repair when stuff happens.
Also, I like the look of the S2000 better.
For a weekend only car, I'd pick the Porsche.

Boxster S. More torque, more grip, better sound, engine is in the right place, still feels tossable.

Had the opportunity to buy a Boxster vs. an S2K, chose the S2K. Felt like the S was a better value, looked much better and I'm not much of a "Porsche person" (if that makes any sense). The S2K also has way more exclusivity, at least in my area (driving up to the Town Center yesterday I lost count at ~10 Boxsters on a ~20 mile drive).
Cost itself wasn't so much the issue as what you get for the price difference - I feel like the delta is much more driven by subjective measures (which I didn't value).
When I ordered my short list for a convertible, the Boxster was about 4th behind the S2K, C6 and 911.
Cars tend to have immediate impact on me like art, scotch, women - I tend to click with them right up front, or not. FWIW, my cars aren't DD's and this ride in particular was just for knocking around on the weekend, so I didn't factor in things like storage and whatnot (I have something for that if I need it).
Definitely go drive them though and have fun!
