i have owned all 3, s2000 was the most fun to drive, i would pick the evo over the sti, too many reasons. i preferred the handling on the evo better than the sti. mod friendly, proven and reliable motor.
According to your sig.. you had the Evo for a month.. and that somehow makes you an expert?

Don't get me wrong, I've only driven an EVO like 5 times.. so I'm not trying to say that the STi would indeed be better.. its just that one month of ownership isn't quite enough to call someone extremely knowledgeable. More knowledgeable than 5 drives? DUH, no brainer.. but overall it looks in your sig like you had issues with your STi anyways.

I certainly don't say "Thank god my STi is gone" for example.

I think it depends on what you want as a final outcome.

I had TEIN Flex. Frankly, it was a bit over the top for the street. Especially after 30k behind them. Handling was incredible.

I have ridden in STi equipped with STi pinks and think they are great, IMO. I have also ridden in one that had Espelir springs and it, also, moved quite nicely.

I would not recommend any of the TEIN springs (S or H-Tech), Tanabe springs, or anything that lowers the car too much, unless you go with coilovers.

I also rode in a car equipped with the Cusco adjustables (ALA Tein EDFC) and found every setting to be a little too soft.

OEM STi coilovers are a bit over the top price-wise.

Oh, also, Prodrive springs are REALLY close to Eibach ProKit (Eibach produces the springs for Prodrive)

As far as reliability is concerned.. I have to be honest, it was SUPER reliable in the 40,000 miles I put on it. No unexpected CELs. The only issue I had was the stock rear struts, which is a WELL documented issue with 04 STi. I hit several track days and many auto-x's with the car during the 40,000 miles.. including a stint to 165+mph.. car is rock solid.

If you plan to track it, I STRONGLY suggest an oil cooler.

Regarding any clutch issues.. I don't launch my car, but I replaced my clutch for a Exedy setup since I wanted a light flywheel combo. I wouldn't recommend using too light a flywheel like I did. I regreted it. The combination of a really light clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel combo with a sticky clutch makes for one really tricky car to drive in traffic. Also, regarding longetivity, I have a friend with a GT30 equipped STi... its been a couple thousand miles with it now without issues. it whips out 360whp with 91 octane (daily driving), 425whp on 100 octane (no clutch slip), and 460whp with 28psi on 100+ octane aggressive map. It slips at 460, but not at 425. Stock clutch, never launched.
Thanks for the info. I was asking because my friend who has the '06 wants to firm up the car but wants to do it right. I told him the STI OE stuff would probably be best. I have heard the STI springs are very nice. I am assuming the coilovers are even better.

As far as STI suspension goes from what I've read the best suspensions mod to do are front and rear sway bars

my experience is this: s2000 (top down of course) for nice days, and the EVO for rainy days.

Maybe this helps and maybe not. Stock Evo lifetime average MPG: 16.7

I am starting to think about buying a FIT. With aggressive driving (canyons, high speed runs, street and highway)we were able to still get 31 MPG.

I would love to get Evo more then Sti for a beater for DD, but it just doesnt seem right to me. I would rather have something with more room, towing power, and hauling capability. Now if I can have a nice truck, Evo/Sti, and S2000. Then we are talking...

I know several members here have both Evo/Sti and S2000.

i drive an evo 9 while my bro has an ap1.

the evo is just a beast. however driving fun wise, i think my mr2 turbo and my bro's ap1 take the cake.

first of all the Evo is so high off the ground that, despite the best steering i've ever experienced in ANY car, u still somehow feel disconnected. note i said "feel", because in real life the Evo still gets the job done.

a car like the s2000 is just pure driving bliss. esp. with the top down, it's just an awesome driving experience that i think not many cars can beat.
it corners very flat, and it has one of the most rigid body i've ever experienced. and the gearbox is just ridiculous. plus it's so small that u feel like u're one with the car.

the Evo's more fun in a straightline though, with a crapload of tq (relative to s2k) and very fun surge of turbo rushes it handles like a mother (e.g. cutting 90 degree corners at 45 mph, taking banked on ramps at insane speeds), however it doesn't _feel_ the same as the s2000. the grip is just endless in the evo, whereas in the s2k u'd have to have some sort of driver input to correct the s2k if u lose the tail. which is very fun in another way.

all in all, both cars are freakin awesome. the evo/sti and s2k combo is perfect IMO. i'm a very happy man
