So will a go-cart with a 75 hp engine (knock yourself out). That's not the point. I was all ready for an Esprit that will also stomp an S2000, but I went with the Honda because:
I don't want to wrench on it every weekend.
I don't want to pray every time before turning the key.
I don't want the car falling apart everytime I'm stomping an S2K.
I don't like the build quality of English cars (kit cars are built better)
And I want to be able to sell it someday without taking a 50% hit on the price as soon as it rolls off the lot.
I don't get it, as stripped as the Lotus Elise is and for what your really getting (a neat looking go-cart with a car engine), it's not worth more than $20k. From any logical point of view, and if you have money to blow anyway, the Ford GT (even at 500k) is more practical.

Think about it this way. The Lotus does stomp all over the S2000, but does this matter to you? My old Civic stomps all over my S2000, but that doesn't matter to me, I love my S2K way more than I loved my Civic.
The Lotus is a stripped car designed for racing. It is extremely light, which gives it a questionable safety issue to ponder about. I personally would not drive this car to work and home everyday. S2000 is a car that is the most raced out car that is still acceptable for daily commuting, providing safety and comfort. The Lotus, I'm not too sure you would want it for daily commuting.
It also comes down to whether the price is still within your range without doing some serious damage. For me, the 7-9K bump in the price would do damage to me, so the Lotus is not even in consideration for me. I am assuming the price of the Lotus is not an issue for you. If the drivability and safety is NOT an issue as well, go for the Lotus all the way. If drivability and safety IS an issue, can't beat the S2000.
I don't think reliability for either cars is an issue, both are reliable.

Blah, blah , blah Lotus hands down. Brakes harder, turns harder, and accelerates harder, Where do I sign? I bought my S2000 because its a sports car, not because it has an electric convertable top, or a radio, or because it's harsh suspension is just what I need for long trips(????). But because it was the best sports car for the money (I bought mine used).
