Well my avatar says it all. I may not buy the 2004 edition, but it's in my future for sure.

i still say the elise make a great expensive toy. get one if you have other cars in your garage. if not, get the s2000. besides, unless you plan on spending lots of money for track days, you'll probably never push the car anywhere near its handling limit to justify the purchase. this is probably the same with the s2000, but at least with the s2000, you pay less money, plus it has more practical uses...

Nonsense. You don't need to track a car to justify its purchase. It's like a stereo. You may never turn it up full volume, but it sounds better even at low volume if the power is there.

I haven't seen any comments regarding the probable difficulty in getting one if you're not already on a list nor the dealer markup which is sure to happen with those not yet spoken for. Expect the car to be AT LEAST $40K out the door.
For that kind of money, you could do some wonderful things with the MR2-Spyder which is essentially, not far removed from the Lotus (at least with an additional $15K of goodies). Granted, that kind of comparo isn't really the point but if you're comparing a $40K car with a $31K car, you might as well take into advisement what you can create with that additional $9K.
Because the Lotus is such a niche automobile (one-trick pony), its resale
value I believe will be very suspect and thus you had damn well be sure it's spartan interior won't overshadow the performance.
For $40K, I'd rather have a low mileage Z06. The Lotus is just too "kit car-ish" for my tastes. The interior looks only a few blueprints away from an '86 Fiero.

The Elise will cost you more, not be built as well, and be hell to maintain, but it'll stomp an S2K.

Oh yeah, did I mention that I sold my S2K to get an Elise?

Wow I really would have liked to see lotus use the S2000 motor. Could you picture that little thing with the current 2.0 240hp 9K redline that could be the insane.

0-60mph---4sec. est.
1/4mile-----12.5 est.

I love the looks of the lotus but I think its just a little to small if you get in a wreck its lights out.

Ever since I replaced my 99 miata with an S2000, I've never failed to notice the extra weight. I love my current S2000 .... but I can totally see myself in an Elise .... decisions, decisions ...
