Also...what are you going to be using it for? Daily driver...weekend car...track car...this should all be taken into consideration. A heavily modded RX7 won't last that long, they also have tranny problems. A properly tuned RX7 will be wicked fast...but really unreliable. Give us a little more detail..then you'll probably get more informative responses.

if you want fast and unreliable, you can get 350+++ rx7's fully built for 20-25k on it would be show quality.

The S would out handle it IMO on tighter tracks and canyons, but if you want brute force go with the rx7, they are bad ass.

S2k is a little more refined and is a bit more of a drivers car on the track and road, with skill it is fast, with out skill, well look how many of our boys have crashed the S's (including me ). I do not care what anyone says oon this board, at speed she can be slippery, which is what makes her fun.

The RX-7 is WAY too unreliable for me to recommend it at all. A car is not fun if it's broken all the time.

The Rx7 is a better performance car. It Accelerates faster, Stops faster, Handles better, and has crazy mod potential. Rx7s are one of the few cars that can dominate cars in almost every other type of race. In drag racing there are Rx7s running 6 second time slips, in track racing Rx7s hold fastest stock car time lap in the tsukaba circuit and also modded rx7s hold one of the fastest time slips with other modded cars.(j spec fds however), In SCCA it dominated everything up until the z06 showed up. It is the only car that old that competes in that category with porsche 911 vipers lotus and corvettes. It is also the most underpowered yet still hands most cars their ass on a silver platter. Mountain racing, it was plain built for that and it has a 98.g lateral g on the skidpad. and was sometimes recorded over 1 lateral g. They are unreliable, yes but when running right, they are very fun and downright fast. I think the rx7 can become a classic. Its value raised in 2001 and its the only cars that have a rotary engine in it besides the rx-4 cosworth and etc. Plus it looks damn good.

s2000s are a lot more refined. It is the best roadster and you can feel the wind in your hair but whoever said that a fd cant?

The FD RX-7 is a great project car, and a terrible daily driver. It has beauty, great performance and even better potential, but they are money traps. They require a lot of work to keep them running well, and that is assuming you start with a good car. I did some research a while back and came to the conclusion that you are better off getting one with burnt motor but a clean body/interior and then have a new motor professionally built from a known rotary expert.

Definitely avoid cars with original miles, regardless of whether it was modified or not-- heat and time will break down the engine and especially the miles of hoses in the engine compartment. Replacing these parts as you go will amount to constant headaches and possibly getting stranded which as someone already said is not fun, and not why you buy a sportscar.
