Default RX8 Predictions

There have been a few road tests and articles on the Mazda RX8. They all seem to claim that the RX8 has fantastic handling attributes. I can't imagine that the RX8 would be able to out handle an S2k on the track nor would it be able to match the straightline speed of an S2k - For those who have also read up on the RX8, what are your thoughts?

It's probably going to be more along the lines of the Infiniti or Maxima/altima. It's made more to be a "sporty" sedan, than a sports car. It sounds like it handles great, though I can't imagine in stock form it will be a track monster. Straightline, I'd guess mid/low 14's.

I don't know how you figure RX8 is going to be slower in straightline when it weighs the same as S2000 (maybe 30 lbs heavier if that) and makes a little more HP and TQ ????

No, it's more like 150 lbs. heavier, not 30. I have the R&T magazine and it says like 30xx lbs (don't remember exactly). It is a little bit slower than the S, but gotta love the roomy space in the back--seats two ADULTS.

CAR and DRIVER weighed the one they tested at 2940 lbs, that is with all the fluids and gas in the tank so the curb weight should be 28xx lbs

Not to say R&T is more accurate or vice versa, but it has the RX-8 listed at 3,000 lb. in curb weight; 3,180 lb. in test weight (assuming w/ driver). In comparason, S2000's curb weight is ~2,805 lb.

The RX-8 tested has the grand touring package (traction control, moonroof, etc.) and I do not know if that's included in its curb weight. I assume it is...
