I can't disagree more, the rx-7 just a fast straight in line machine?
I've been in this horrible debate, buying another RX-7 or a S2K, but having owned a '93 RX-7, there is not way this is correct. Perhaps you are more in tune with the feel of your car. Because when I had my RX-7, I hit corners harder and harder the longer I owned it. I would go at corners to the point where I thought I would exceed the cars limits and found out I scared myself before the car actually lost any grip. Numbers don't lie, the seven can gather almost 1 lateral G stock.
When I gave my mom a ride she thought it rode like a truck with bricks because the suspension was so hard and I had a touring version which is softer than the R1. I know in '94 and '95 they lightened the suspension, was it possible you drove a later year version?
Maybe the 7's you drove needed some fresh tires or something. I know the S2k is a great handler, but I just find this difficult to believe.
I know passion is involved in our cars, so maybe that is what is coming out. I loved my seven, so maybe that is the reason I feel it needs to be defended. I sure wish I had the $$ to buy both.
As I said, one day I'm deciding to buy another 7, and the next day I want an S2k. Fortunately for me, I'm picky so I'm narrowed down to only these two cars. If someone comes out with a Renesis rotary mod, I will probably get a seven, because the reliability issue should not be a problem.
Anyone have difficulty getting a test drive of an S2k? The Honda dealership near me was not very co-operative as I possibly want one, but they didn't seem to want to take it down (it was on a rotating platform).
I found a place in Las Vegas where I can rent a stook for a day so I can finally decide for myself what I think.

On a note, I work for a large software company. I would lean on getting an S2k except for these nagging issues.
I work in a group that has lots of sports cars.
My 2nd tier manager has a M roadster. My boss above him has a Porsche Boxster S.
Another engineer has a NSX ('91 automatic) and another engineer has a Z06.
We would probably never race, but there are bragging rights.
The reasons I want a S2k.
It's a newer car. It's convertible. It has Honda reliability.
The reason why I want a seven.
I had a blast when I last owned one. With a few mods, I know I could beat the crap out of all my co-workers cars except the Z06.
Oh well, my decision doesn't happen until I can at least get a test drive. I need to drive another seven as a reminder, as well because I sold that car 5 years ago.
My suspicion, at least from not driving the s2k yet. Is from what I read, both cars probably have very similar performance characteristics.

Reading these recent posts was funny!
RX-7's not handling as well as S2000's?
C5 Corvettes (and RX-7's) being more for straight line running?
The RX-8 having as good a shifter as the S2000? (how could anyone know yet?)
IMO, this should be a very easy decision.
RX-7, at least mildly modded, will far exceed an S2000's performance level...it's one of the few Japanese supercars. However, do you want to live w/ the reliability and maint. issues?
OTOH, how much do you value having a convertible?
Prioritize performance, reliability, and open air, and you should get an easy decision. I have a couple of friends w/ wild RX-7's, and they're awesome cars. I'm not patient enough to own one, however.

the RX-8 is going to suck and tottally forgets what the Rx7 stood for. A pure TWO SEATER SPORTS CAR... not an ok performing COUPE that is not very attractive... PLEASE Mazda, bring back atleast a few RX-7s to the states!
