The k-series actually has more torque and a more subtle crossover than the b-series.

But yes, of course it will always be much faster at high RPM.

I actually don't think it would be that difficult. However it seems like Honda likes to design their engines properly from scratch rather than bolt on changes and updates.

Also, camshaft phasing really doesn't do that much for peak performance on its own. Just look at Toyota VVTI engines. The main benefits seem to be smoothness and fuel consumption.
