RS4 vs. M3 Mag Comparo
#61
But who cares if the M3 is a little faster? These aren't drag cars. No one will be buying them to turn them into drag racing machines. They aren't great track cars and if you are really racing you would modify so much anyway that stock performance matters very little. So are we talking about performance in terms of highway pulls and other stupid measurements? They are so close that picking the one that looks better to you or makes you feel 'special' (haha) makes a lot more sense.

Mag racing is silly anyway. As they say "your results may vary."
If you compare two cars:
Car#1: 0-60mph in 4.3 sec, 1/4 mile in 12.8 @ 109.7, Skidpad 0.88, Slalom 68.9 mph. 60-0 in 121 feet.
Car#2: 0-60mph in 4.7 sec, 1/4 mile in 13.2 @ 106.8, Skidpad 0.90, Slalom 70.6 mph, 60-0 in 107 feet.
Which one is a better performer?
Well, they're both RS4s. The first was Road and Track, the second was Edmunds. Edmunds was typical with their less aggressive launches and slower straightline times. But their tires / track were in better condition yielding better better handling and braking numbers.
This was just to illustrate the variability in 0-60 and 1/4 mile times and with so much variability within testing of the same vehicle, I don't think such narrow dry condition gaps between the RS4 and M3 are meaningful.
"The M3 is CLEARLY faster... as long as you have a fast driver, no hesitation, and perfect road conditions..."
