Return of the NSX...sort of...

If either the NSX or S2000 were PROFITABLE, Honda would still be making them. But money-losing "halo cars" just don't cut it any more.
Remember, Honda makes their money selling NEW cars; if you're not buying a new NSX or S2000, you don't mean squat to the manufacturer. Fanboys who discuss, buy used, but never buy a new NSX or S2000 don't pay Honda's bills. People who buy new Accords, Civics, Odysseys, etc. pay the bills.
Their first allegiance is quite properly to the shareholders; the fanboys come in way far behind.
Note: I bought my S2000 used, so I'm one of the ones who didn't contribute to Honda's bottom line.

Obviously the management of a company as complex as Honda would not see the strict profitability of a car such as the NSX as the only determinant to its success or failure based on whether it was profitable from the stand point of covering all R&D and manufacturing costs with the sales of the car alone.
Not to mention, no one on this board knows how much Honda has sold in parts related to the NSX, how much it has gained in service revenue, to what degree its development of the NSX would have been expenditures in its various racing programs regardless, the list goes beyond what we can simply guess here with nearly zero insight.

buying used does contribute to the honda's bottom line. maybe not directly, but definitely indirectly.
it's like saying I paid walmart for a loaf of bread but it still benefited the farmer who harvested the wheat from the field.
w/out a used car market, the new car market would crash and prices would plumet. that is why u see manufacturers make advertisments on their certified pre-owned vehicles and how they boast they have some of the best resale values around...

Possibly a minor point, but a valid one:
There is VALUE to Honda having cars like the S2000 and NSX in production far beyond the profit they make on those cars.
