However mini is not that cheap and in my opinion most of the mini owners who purchased these cars brand new are at least 21 -22 and this cheap stunt is not going to fool them.
I would normally agree with you, but I'm a little less sure after having read the Mini owner comments on FB.

Its almost sad to see most of you in here genuinely upset over this. People in here who currently own a 997 911 please raise your hand.
[raises hand] What's your point though?

Just want to see if the people who are losing their bowels over this actually own the car that mini used for the video. If not then people sure are extra sensitive these days about material things that dont affect them. If kia made a video of a sorento finishing an obstacle course remotely comparable to a range rover I could see RR owners throwing their hands in the air but not someone who owns an mdx.

People are in here making all kinds of comment about mini's lack of class when this is all in marketing jest. Laugh a little. If theres something to get upset about in marketing its when most manufacturers shows their car or suv speeding through streets like the mille miglia regardless if its a sonata or touareg as if it is legal to drive that way.

Ah, got it. I'd be curious about the correlation myself. I find the challenge interesting, creative, a bit goofy, and very clever on MINI's part.

It's been fun following it, including Porsche's reply (which was exactly the right path in my opinion), and the sleight of hand on MINI's part, to some degree.

Mostly the whole thing is fairly amusing. I don't know any 911 owners who are enraged by it.

You can take a piece of spoiled meat, put some seasoning on it and make it taste like hamburger. But it'll NEVER be filet mignon! Minis will always be cars for teenagers and they should stop trying to associate themselves with Porsche ASAP!

I don't think this is a good marketing practice at all. If their target consumer base were to be high school kids this challenge might be somewhat on target. However mini is not that cheap and in my opinion most of the mini owners who purchased these cars brand new are at least 21 -22 and this cheap stunt is not going to fool them.

At the end of the video when mini and porsche parked next to each other they looked like they are from different planets. All this video made say is wow that is a one nice looking porsche and if I can't afford to buy one may be I should consider and 350z or a 370z.
Most are actually much older than 21 or 22. I think MINI knows their audience and how to market to them for the most part. How else would they get people to pay around 26k(average) for one of the smallest cars on the market?
