The car is much nicer as a hardtop. Especially with that "sideblade" design on the hardtop, losing that element and chopping off the roof really hurts this car. The Lambo equivalent seems to take to losing the top a good deal better.

I guess styling is all subjective. I think the "side blades" on the R8 are one of the ugliest looking features on any car...period. They ruin the car for me. And the fact that the marketing guys came up with the term "side blade"...comical. I find this spider version of the R8 much better looking and it's probably a lot more fun to drive.

I like the hardtop with the Carbon fiber sideblades better, but that convertible is gorgeous.

I agree, it does seem a bit gimmicky, but it did help establish the styling of the car. It seems to be part of it's identity.
