recommend me a hatchback/wagon
so i need something bigger, and abit more comfortable than the S. girlfriend and I want to get another dog, and just need more room than the S provides. When I started looking to replace the S, I was looking at Blazer/explorer type vehicles. I think right now a car based wagon/hatchback type vehicle will serve us better, as long as it has enough space.
Cars the come to mind:
chevy malibu maxx
mazda protege
mazda 6 wagon
ect. ect.
I dont think a vehicle like a fit or nissan versa will give us enough room for two people, two dogs, and camping gear, so i havent really considered those too much.
I dont really need alot of features, but do have some requirements:
4 doors is a must, must get 25mpg on the highway or better, and an automatic transmission.
also, the car must be cheap. looking for a price range of about 13k or less, used of course.
3......2.......1....... GO!!
cliff notes:
4dr wagon/hatch
auto trans
25 hwy mpg
13k or less.
practicality is what Im after, cat like reflexes are not required.

Have you thought about a small SUV like a CR-V? I got mine half a year ago and I absolutely love it. Also throw in the fact that I got the AWD option, and the car is amazingly versatile. I just took my parents and brother on a loooooooong road trip and it performed flawlessly.
Just a thought.

I'd highly recommend looking at the IS300 sport wagon. They're a bit hard to find depending on where you live, but I totally dig the one my wife drives. It's reliable as an anvil and there's a ton of space available, especially when you fold the rear seats flat. I'm always surprised how much stuff fits in it -- way more than it looks like it would hold from the outside.
Drives nice, the old 2JZ I-6 engine is way more effortless feeling than any of the silly new Toyota V-6s, and the design inside and out has aged surprisingly well I think. Gets 25mpg on the highway (barely) and you should be able to get one for $13k with a little work.
(It's hard to see, but that box sticking out the back goes all the way to the dashboard, with the back seats and passenger seat folded flat.)
