Porsche's are not known for their reliability so that may become a costly issue in the future.
... Only kidding... mine ate 25k last year, so I can't really say otherwise.
(Though I will note that most of that was for mechanic error.)

A 2007 STI Limited can be had for $25k easily. A NEW 08 STI can be had for under $29k, at least at the end of 2008. Neither even begins to compare to a Cayman S. And IMO, the earlier STI's are butt-ugly and the boxer "rumble" sounds like absolute crap! I much prefer the sound of my S2000, but to each his own.
You could also consider a used corvette or a 3 series. What about an A4? It's hard to make a suggestion when your choices are all over the place. Do you need AWD? Forced induction?

I think what he meant by reliable is that porsches are buggy like VWs, and while not all the problems wil leave you stranded, most will leave you broke so you might as well be stranded.
Like VWs are reliable, don't really know of anyone who was left stranded in one, but those lil things add up in a hurry.

In all honesty, I would ride a bike, walk/run, take public transportation before I would think about a new car. Perhaps even think about moving to be closer to prospective work places.
So basically I would focus on finding work first.
Good luck finding a Job, I hear it's hard out there. Maybe think about posting some of your skills here or a local board. Maybe someone on this forum has some inside ins-outs for you.

Broke, unemployed, and looking at a Porsche. Glad priorities are in order.
