Recaro files for bankruptcy
Well, that sucks. Big news - pick your flavor of automotive news to read the details...
Not too dissimilar from when BBS reported bankruptcy last year. I wonder who will decide to snag them up.

You talk about an end to an era! This is sad news.

Someone will surely buy the name, probably a Japanese company, and then they'll figure out a way to charge much more, better start hoarding Recaros, lol.

Definitely sad to see, but hard to know how the business is run not being a public company w/o seeing the numbers. Are all Recaro seats still made in Germany? I know many are. Maybe mfr will move to a cheaper location outside of Germany like many other industries.

Do they have any intellectual property or are they just a brand name? Car seats ain't that hard to make so unless the water is special in that part of Germany they can be made anywhere and by anyone. Companies go bankrupt every day and their products live on. I'll not be shedding any tears.
Take away the Recaro embroidery and what differentiates them from a dozen different seats? Put the Recaro embroidery on famous Chuckster seats and *** Poof *** you've got Recaros you can sell to a lot of guys. Not you guys, of course, but the average car guy knows the brand but can't tell ya a single thing special about them other than they're expensive which makes them a status symbol even if there are no known advantages to the owner. Rolex is the same on a macro scale. It's unimportant this watch has the correct time it's only important it's a Rolex. For most folks you can say the same about Recaro seats it's only important they're Recaros.

Recaro's been around for 120 years and supplies a lot seats to various automakers, including American ones. Not even remotely close to your Rolex analogy.
