Default Are radar detectors still useful?

Just wondering if radar detectors are still effective in detecting speed traps. I had a detector ~12 years ago, but obviously speed detection technology has advanced since then. Last Feb. I got a 51 in a 35 mph zone ticket ($170), and last Sunday I got a warning going 54 in a 45 mph zone. Both times it was late night, urban divided 4 lane road, with no other cars around. Both officers were city police in parked cars, one sitting behind bushes around a curve, and the other sitting on the far side of an overpass (just down the road from the only bar in town that can sell alcohol on Sundays). Just wondering if current inexpensive radar detectors would be effective in detecting these types of radars. As a side point, both times the officers on their own said my car was a fast car. Also went thru a rural 2 am Sat night license check a couple of weeks back, and when I was good to go, the officers actually asked me to open up the throttle when I left so they could hear it (no other cars around). I just smiled and declined, and said "maybe next time".

Good Question.
My answer would be Yes the newew radar detector DO work. I have a passport escort 9500i red. It cost me about 500$ after tax etc. It has saved my A$S FOR REAL. The running pack with it is the Valentine one. Which im pretty sure you have heard of. They BOTH have the same distance on it. The main difference is Valentine 1 has arrows. BUT i picked the Passport because it looks much cleaner and has GPS ( tells how fast im going very accurate as in 75mph or whatever) and it is smarter than the V1. The v1 has 1 setting and its on full blast. While the 9500i is smart, It has the GPS which will tell it to open up to full band length, and when not too. Say im going 35mph the 9500i will keep the signals to about 1/2mile. But when i accelerate hard or go +50mph it will open up the signal to maximum. Truthfully i was gonna get the V1 but its so bulky! Passport looks alot better

Yes the new ones work quite well to a trained user.

Yes, they work.

You get what you pay for. Anything under $200 is going to be a waste. There's a zillion enthusiast/expert groups on radar detectors...just do some googling.

I ran this way for several years. I would like to put a CB in the S, but I have not found one that is small enough and that I like. I will continue to look.

Could they ticket you after even though they asked you to do it (speeding/unsafe driving ticket)?

Or were they trying to listen for an exhaust so they could ticket you?(exhaust ticket)
