R8 comparo in EVO magazine
What's the matter with US car mags? They need to fit an article into 4-5 pages with maybe less than one page of text. EVO and CAR give you as much room as it takes. This article in EVO is 19 pages with no adverts in the middle of the article.
I haven't savored the whole article yet.
Just the conclusions the R8 is the champ. (NOTE: this is a UK mag so the prices are out of wack. The R8 is the cheapest car (?) 76K pounds while the Aston is $100K pounds and the M6 82K pounds and C4S 80K) in the US the M6 and C4S are the cheapest ($90K-ish) and the R8 and Aston about the same ($120K-ish).
But suffice to say (IMO) those are the cars in the running (as well with the Z06). I mean if you pony up $99K for a M6 you should be able to go for a R8 or Aston.
the C4S (this had the power pack 375hp): "You can argue that no one needs a car thats faster..."
the R8 "There are faster cars but we can't think of one that takes a demanding road apart with the surgical precision and composure... It doesn't matter what kind of road it is - fast and open, twisty and technical etc. the R8 will blitz any and all varities of blacktop.
For the good of the supercar evolution it could hardly be better. Audi humbles Porsche. A new dawn start"
Last place M6 (too much bulk)
3rd (close to tie with 2nd place) Vantage
2nd 911
1st R8 (clear winner)

Nice stuff. The big surprise to me is to see an AM ahead of a BMW.
There's no doubting the R8 is the real thing. I'd still take a 997 S because I could get the convertible, but that's personal preference.

This Aston is the Vantage with 'sport pack'
I'm not sure if it's availible in the US yet but has 425hp and 325-TQ (second most of both hp and TQ in the test) as configured the Aston weighs just 10kg more than the R8 (better power to weight).

they did some speed numbers on the R8: (the other cars did not have numbers so this was not really a comparo but rather a R8-fest).
0-60 4.3s
0-100 10.4s
1/4 mile 12.9s @ 111.8 mph
And a best lap around the Bedford 1.8 mile track was 1:22.1 sec
Compare to:
CGT 1:19.7
McLaren F1 1:21.2
Enzo 1:21.3
R8 1:22.1
Koeinigsegg CCX 1:22.3
06 Gallardo 1:22.8
997 GT3 1:23.4
This is a slow speed track with the Enzo/McLaren/CGT peak speed at 120mph and the R8 113.7 mph and the GT3 114.4 mph. I suppose a track with higher peak speeeds will separate the cars more and probably put the Gallardo and GT3 quicker than the R8.
0-60 4.3s
0-100 10.4s
1/4 mile 12.9s @ 111.8 mph
