I have never found myself in a position to where I needed to shift all the way down to 1st gear. I mean, if I approached a Hairpin corner, Say in between 20 - 25 MPH, I would take it in 2nd gear. Keep in mind, to have to slow down that much, the corner would have to be very sharp. I would not be able to use more than 3/4 throttle in 2nd gear without the back end coming around. If you think about it, if you can't use more than 3/4 throttle in 2nd, then most certainly, 1st gear would put WAY to much power down. Were talkin unusable power.
If I was already doing 30 MPH, I would never shift Into 1st gear. My car does 39 MPH in 1st. Due to momentum and the time it takes to put in the clutch, I am up to 40 maybe 41 MPH before I let the clutch out in 2nd gear. Anyhow, to shift into 1st from 30 MPH, would require a HUGE blip. A massive RPM increase. It's not that I don't drive hard, trust me, I drive very hard (balls to the walls), I don't want to beat the Hell out of my car.
