Maybe when I'm in 6th doing 60-40 or less but wanna put it down to about 2nd. Cluth put it in neutral, clutch again plus rev match and drop the gear. Sometimes it doesn't wanna go so I do that to make sure. I really don't do that though but when I'm in the mountain I sometimes wanna get it to 1st.

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of double cluthing? I thought you are supposed to rev match first, then clutch again...

When you first step on the clutch it in gear so you move the stick to neutral so the RPM would drop. Then you let go of the clutch or let go of the clutch on it when it on neutral. After clutch push down again so you can it in gear or it would grind at the same time you would reve match before you finally let go of the clutch. Have to bring the RPM higher because you are dropping the gears. I think if you just let go of the clutch from 6th to 2nd would put a strain on the tranny.

For some reason my car would grind going into reversed. actually it wouldn't go in at all. So I have to step on the clutch twice and it will go in. I do it every morning when I pull out of my drive way. If i attempt to reversed it would make a grinding noise and woudn't go all the way.

Sometimes I wanna drop my gear rapidly so I double clutch if I go from 6th to 2nd.

Don't listen to all of the detractors. Its a great skill to learn (and fun). Knowing how to properly double-clutch means plain old rev-matching is more than easy. Keeping the balance of the car when having to change gears downward at the entrance to a corner can mean the difference of staying on the racing line or ending up in the dirt. Rev matching and double-clutching on the track is all about balance - keeping the weight transfer smooth instead of just dropping a gear and lurching around.

and I still say its ALL ABOUT THE KILER CLOWNS!

Thanks for the answers. I know how to double clutch. I guess the question was more why put the car back into neutral, release the clutch, then rev the motor, then clutch in and put the car back in gear. Instead of just putting the clutch in, rev the motor and put the car in gear, clutch out?

see previous answers in the thread

1.) to save wear and tear on the synchros (gets the gearbox internals up to speed - not just the engine)
2.) to be able to shift on a non-synchro equipped car
3.) because its fun
