1994 or newer miata. in 1999 you get a glass rear window and some models had a 6 sp...but miata is the most fun and economy you can get for the money and little upkeep.

the 3 series was a 2.5 lt, or a 325 till much later...so the one you are looking at was a 325...and there was no 318 back then (mid to late 1980's)...a great car would be a 1987-1988-89 325is...but keep in mind with bmw you pay for the upkeep way more than for the car at that age....japanese is a good bet...even better than a gti.
