project car on a very tight budget

Everybody is giving this guy grief for $1000 on a dog. Sometimes you gotta pay that for a quality dog. Mine was $800 ten years ago. I looked into american bulldogs and puppies were going in the $1250 range from a reputable breeder and those are lucky to live 6-7 years.
Getting one from a reputable breeder with guarentees cost extra but it can save ten times that if the dog is healthy vs. a puppy mill dog with lots of genetic issues. Some people can say discard a dog with health problems but it is not easy when you get attached to the little buggers. Hip displasia, diabetes, eye problems can happen in many dogs with bad genes and the cost is huge.
I am not a big fan of Chihuahua's though.
Sorry to ramble off topic. If you can find an 84-85 RX7 GSL-SE model or even a 2nd gen, they might be a fun car too.

Or it could be that he's got a bankroll of $2300 and wants to spend almost half on a dog. If he had a bank roll of $20K, then I'm sure no one would have as big of an issue that he wanted to spend 1/20th of it on a dog.

I have seen the problems that having too many dogs in the pound system causes first hand so i'm sensitive..what can I say.

1. Spending 1000 on a dog is dumb... Spending 1000 on your girlfriend, well that depends on the relationship and not really my business.
2. Buy a 1300 beater. Then sell that 02 Accord for some decent money and buy something you might actually enjoy. Good example lets say 94-98 GSR.... Then you can start a decent project modding and what not and if it breaks down you have the beater back up to get you to work or whatever.
Just my .02 Good Luck

85-87 Toyota MR2.
One of the most fun cars I have ever driven. Does not have a lot of power, but is still fun without it.
For $1,300 you WILL get a project but they are reliable, fun and parts for the mechaincals are plentiful. (interior and exterior are not as easy to come by)
If you can find one that is rust free you will get good milage and it is a blast to drive.

92-95 Honda Civic. SOHC POWER! you can get them for under 1k. a turbo kit for them is around 1500ish. youd be able to hit 200WHP on a SOHC d16 motor. and in a 2800lb car, its pretty fun. plus, before you boost, you can get unleaded either that or a EG or EK hatch and boost the SOHC motor. it makes decent power.
