project car on a very tight budget
Ok, im finally getting some sort of settlement from the accident I had in my scion. It totals 8 grand but after medical bills I get 3800. right off the top Im giving my parents 1500 and buying my girlfriend a chihuahua, id say bout a grand. Im in school for auto mechanics so I figured the 1300 remainder will be for a little beater project.
I hate driving my automatic, 02 accord 4 cyl, but I wouldnt mind it if it was a stick.
How much is it for a conversion to a manual ( I KNOW its not easy), it might be worth saving a bit more to do it. I know you need the tranny, clucth assembly/master cylinder, shifter assembly, ecu, but beyond that im clueless
what would be a good, cheap car, with a stick, to work on and play with, for about 13-15 hundred, depending on the dog? thanks

You know you can adopt from the humane society for a lot less than "bout a grand" right? RIGHT?

lol, I know its alot of money for a dog, but she deserves it, and buys me everything, so its the least I can do. Our names are on lists at every animal shelter in the area, but theres not many "purebred" dogs come thru shelters. If it was my dog, adoption would be the ONLY way to go, but she wants a little dog to put in her purse . Its sad too, because im looking at a $1000 dollars for a "low end" dog, whatever the hell that means.

She want's a dog in her purse? Are you dating Paris effing Hilton? Do you want to date Paris effing Hilton?
If she's dying for a purse dog go elsewhere, drop an extra grand or so on your project.
Unless she's really worth it, you know, does tricks like a trained seal.

It may seem worth it to you (and her) right now, but really... think about this for a while before you spend a grand on an ugly dog for your girlfriend. This stupid new trend of girls carrying their dogs around in their purse can only last so much longer. After that fad dies, what are you going to be left with? An ugly dog your girlfriend doesn't really care about anymore? She's not buying it for the affection, she's buying it to present an image. Doesn't sound like a good long term strategy to me. You could rebuild the engine of whatever car you end up with for a grand...
If she wants an accessory, buy her a Coach purse for a couple hunderd dollars.
