Default Priced out a Pontiac G6...

I went to the pontiac website to price a g6. Since I am an "American", I definately want to give US automakers their due chance. The car looks decent from some angles, less so from other views (saturnesque from the rear), but thanfully gone are the guady "excitement" plastic moldings that usually clad most pontiacs. Interior is your basic pontiac fighter pilot wannabe style, but it's toned down a bit for this car. After running through selecting the standard options which are found on most hondas and toyotas, this car came out to be $26,000 (with leather)!?!?! I think think of a myriad of other cars for that price, and this car would have to be one hellova car to compete. So what do you think? Anyone drive one yet?

I stopped by a Pontiac Dealer over the weekend to test drive a GTO ( great deals on 04's, $3500 back from the factory plus 1.9 for 60 months ).

The dealer had a G6 in the showroom with big lettering on the windshield saying that this is the "Oprah" car.

I took a look at the sticker and almost fell over. They were adding a $2000 dealer markup to the sticker!!! That's right they were asking $2000 over sticker for a Pontiac G6.

I'll never doubt the marketing value of Oprah again.

Hey I'm an American and I would never look at a Pontiac.

for $26k I will take my Accord V6 or a TSX with 6 spd.

I agree. It just blows my mind that companies can stay in business producing cars like this at this price. I would take an accord/tsx over a grand prix much less its little brother G6, and they cost less too! This car needs to be prcied at $18,000-$20k to even be remotely sucessfull.. But I guess thats what year end (we can't sell these for SH*T) rebates are for.

Drove an EX V6 accord today. 2004 left over, 20 miles on odo and selling for $25800. The interior is nicer than the G35s I've been in... almost reminds me of the wood in the Lexus sc430 with all the hide-away compartments.

Would buy that car over anything from Pontiac in a heartbeat.

The only scheduled maint on the Accord is oil change every 10,000 miles until 100,000 mi. The Pontiac will be lucky to make it to 100,000. And that's not even mentioning resale amounts....

When Hyundia will sell you Elantra GT with all the options, a 10 year warrantee and better initial quality than anything you can buy from GM, for $15K, you know GM is in trouble.

I knew GM was in deep doo-doo when they slapped a Cadillac badge on a Cavalier with leather seats (remember the Cimmaron?).

I know Lexus basically did the same with the ES250 and the Camry, but Lexus was a new brand.

I don't know what Cadillac were doing, but damn, were they sending the wrong message.

GM only makes its profits in it's finaning and financial divisions which is huge. They use the car business as a write off. they want to build shitty cars that don't sell.

for many years gm has been putting out the same cars with different bodies, this is yet another one, can anyone guess which other car shares the engine, trans, suspension, chassis???

i have not seen one, but it is a nicer looking pontiac than previous years.
