The Cayman, no matter what Porsche says, really is just a Boxster with a roof, especially since the Boxster gets the Cayman engine for 2007.
Drive them back to back, then tell me they're identical. Yes, the Cayman takes a huge percentage of the Boxster and throws a roof on it, but behind the wheel - they are not the same.

I'd take a 2007 Boxster S OR a Cayman S over a 2001 silverstone S2000 if the cost of upgrading were zero, rather than $45,000 to $55,000.

I'd take s2ki over caymanclub.net any day.

I agree with that, but Cayman Club is still pretty new. It already beats the hell out of many other car sites I visit.

S2Ki is still my favorite hands down

They are identical in the sense that M3 cab and M3 are identical. M3 is an M3 cab with a tin roof - both are M3. Just like 997 is a 997 cab with a tin roof. All else being equal, tin roof always have higher rigidity. That alone doesn't make them separate cars, imo.
Exactly. They are as identical as coupe/roadster are going to get.

Different suspension components will be another differing feature between the cars in 2007.

I'm not going to argue it - what I do have a problem with is all these people who post in the Car Talk forum who solely go off of what is on paper . I have not driven a 2007 Boxster, but there is a big difference between the 2006 Cayman S and 2006 Boxster S.

pointy, i think what most are saying is they are 95% similar and only 5% different.

a 5% disparity should not (will not?) yield a "big difference" as you state...

The original point to my question though was why a person who is a fan of open sports cars really likes the Cayman but not the Boxster. He also said the Cayman is a case of Porsche returning to its roots. I'm not arguing that the driving experience is exactly the same, but I am saying that if the Cayman is Porsche returning to its 356 roots, wouldn't the Boxster be Porsche returning to its Speedster or 356 cab roots? The driving experience may be a little different, and you might prefer one over the other, but in reality some suspsension tweaks and a roof (with the rigidity that comes with it) do not a completely separate car make. I conside the Z4M Coupe and M roadster essentially the same as well; any car enthusiast knows that there will be some inherent tradeoffs when you slice the top off, but that doesn't make them separate cars, only slight variations of the same thing. How a person could not like the roadster but like the coupe, especially if that person is a roadster fan, is beyond me.

I hope this will settle the confusion. Poindexter is correct.
