Default The previous-generation Civic SI hatch...

I test drove one of these the other night and was pleasently surprised. I'm considering purchasing a high miles used 2002 with everything on it, plus a couple extras. It felt really solid, and it felt torquey enough for such a little thing.

Should I be worried about theft with these cars? I know they're not generally regarded as the more desirable Sis out there. I did some internet searching, and I did not see it on any recent listings.

Theft?......probably not. If someone wants to steal that, they could go steal an egg from a 7-11 store; it's the same thing, but with less hassle.

Personally, I think they are a nice, practical, well-equipped car for the money - albeit horrendously ugly, IMHO. They certainly do seem to hold their value well.

When the 2002 Sis were introduced, they were so poorly recieved that Honda could not give them away. Mid-later 2002, it was possible to pick one up brand new at $14k-$15k as Honda dealers desperately tried to move them. Now, 4 you years later, you see 2002 Sis with 30k-40k mi going for asking prices in the same $14k-15k range. Hindsight is always 20/20. But had I known that I could have picked up a 2002 Si new for under $15,000, driven it around for 4 years, and then sold it at nearly no loss, I think I would have been able to get over its asthetic unpleasantness...

Well it definitely wasn't as pretty as its European counterpart, but I think at the very least it looks like a Civic. I don't particularly think it's ugly, it just looks its market, if you know what I mean.

Like I said, I was amazed at how nice it drove, and it didn't feel like other Hondas I've driven, which was a good thing for me. Most Hondas I feel like I'm 2 inches off the ground in, and this one had surprisingly great headroom, and felt bigger inside than it looked. The price on this used one is right too, so I'm probably going to do it.

My wife has one and it's fine. I does have a bit of torque and if you ever get inspired to mod it, it will respond well. It's a nice enough car but I personally wouldn't buy one.

my wife has one. it is like a tiny minivan. tons of room in the back but it can accomodate four people easily. the shifter, although weird, is in the perfect spot.
two complaints on the car:
it needs another gear. 5th gear on the highway it is revving too high which means gas milage suffers if you're going over 70.
small wheels = so so handling. if this car had some bigger tires and wheels i think it would handle much better.

for a daily driver though it is a great car.

I had one and loved it, very practical and economical, and great fun factor to boot. I had the 04 model with the updated headlights, taillights, and rims which made it look a heckuva lot better, if you get a chance grab one of those. Of all the fwd, practical cars out there, it;s hard to beat this one for the price, simple put, it doesn't drive like a Honda.

I hear ya. The 04+ cars did look better for sure. I figure I can just replace those items if I get this 02. The headlight glass on the car I looked at was pretty foggy, and the hood had a couple swirly scratches, but these were really only perceptible in low lighting at night, and the body itself was essentially in unmarred condition. Not a visible dent to speak of.

And maybe that's what is selling me on the car: it doesn't drive like other Hondas. It's good to know that's the opinion of Honda guys too though.

you can't swap the rims though, they are 5 lugs in '04 and 4 lugs in pre '04
