Default Power loss on warm engine

Hey everyone! I am having a power loss issue on my 2001 Prelude that I was hoping you all could help me with. I posted back in mid April and got a lot of responses but I still haven't found the problem. The car seems to lose a lot of power once it warms up. For instance today it is about 77 degrees and low humidity. On the way home from work the car was running great until I had been driving for about 15 minutes or so. It seems that the lack of power gets the worst when the engine warms up fully. I only have about 20,600 miles and the car is a 5spd. I don't know what could cause the power loss to get so bad once the car warms up. What do you guys think could be causing this for me? Thanks in advance for your help!

Moving to Car Talk.
UTH is primarily for technical stuff dealing with S2000s.

Could be normal; lots of ECUs pull timing when the engine gets hot. Intake air could be getting heated as well. Try a CAI.

Look at www.ntpog.org or www.honda-tech.com for more prelude-specific advice.

Do you have an intake?

Alot of people switch to a Short ram intake, but on a hot day without a box, ure just sucking in hot air. If ure going to switch to an intake with no protection from the engine... Get a CAI... But then u have to worry about Hyrdolock...LoL so have fun figuring it out...

No, I don't have an intake. Just stock air box with K&N filter. I just don't know what could cause this on a car with 20K miles. It runs good until the engine gets really hot. I have also had some sluggishness in colder weather though too, like over the winter. Could I need a valve adjustment? If they were off would they cause the car to lose power once the engine got hot? I just would be really surprised if it is heat soak in 70 degree weather. Let me know what you guys think.

Have you looked at your plugs? How do the valves sound?

Don't know to much about engine technology, but the physics of it can point to a general direction. Your problem is triggered by temperature.

When you say the engine temp gets really high, is it almost at the Red? no matter how hot it is, on all my cars the temp guage is always in the same place. If your engine temp is getting really hot, check your cooling, system.

Because, if the engine gets really hot, it could start to knock, and the ECU will retard the timming. Losing power.
