Porsches best seling 911 is ---> 4S cabrio with Tiptronic (slushbox).
This being the heaviest, slowest, and worst handling 911 they can make.
OK I can maybe be sold on AWD as a race proven option (a la Audi), but I have a hard time finding why a vert that already adds several hundred pounds, needs AWD.
I mean convertibles are (usually) driven in nice sunny weather. Who needs or wants AWD on a vert?
And slushbox just adds insult to injury.
I was really shocked to read the 4S Cab was the best selling 911. I would assume the cheapest rwd, MT would be the best seller.
In fact I didn't even think they made an AWD cab. Who want's the heaviest least powerful sports car?
Well I guess it's not the heaviest now that they make the 911 tt Cab.

Where did you see this stat? Here in the Bay Area, C4S and TT cabs are pretty easy to find while their coupe counterparts are relatively scarce. There had always been a 996 C4 cab but in previous years it was always the worst selling model. I think I recall seeing one year them selling less than 1000.

Exactly, how is it that I rarely see a C4S cab, I see 996's and 993's all day long, and this is the best seller? I don't know?

I found the PR. Very interesting. The only thing I can chalk it up to is that it's the newest model and gets the most attention. What's almost as interesting is that they're not making very many turbo coupes right now, only 61 sold YTD.

My point is, what's the need for awd Cabrio.
I can see why some cars are AWD. Like the EVO because it's based off a FWD car and the whole rally thing. Also the 911 tt has a lot of power to put to the ground.
But a 911 Cab is not a rally car. It's a sunny day car. No need for AWD, thats just extra weight IMO.

The Porsche AWD system is one of the best out there.
My question however would first be, why have AWD on a class defining sports car? Just like the earlier targas, I don't see the point of the convertible either -- but hey Porsche is obviously answering a need that is out there; exactly why that need exists I cannot fathom.
