I've been to the ring about a dozen times and the number one marque that is always there is Porsche. The place is absolutely littered with every version, color, spec of 911, Cayman & Boxster. When a car nut actually utters the word "Oh, its just another GT3RS", then you realize that Porsche owns that place.

With that much presence, Porsche is bound to hold most of the titles there.

Now if we swapped all those 911s with Vettes, I'm sure the top spots would change hands.

Not sure how you can include this while starting the post with saying "unmodded cars". From all the reports I've read, that car was modified ... question is just how much. I'm not sure if Nissan has ever had 'unmodified' GTR at the 'ring.
Just to play "Devil's Advocate", there seems to be just as many reports saying that Nissan GT-R was for all, intents and purposes, a production model. I'd like to know what exactly do your reports suggest as a modified GT-R?

I'm hoping to make a trip to the N'ring next year.

Yes, I agree ... but most of them are from Nissan. Considering their track record for the previous GTRs, they have a habbit of missing out on little details like slicks and more power for the cars they were 'testing'.

Point is that that this time is still just a 'claim' until someone 'independent' drives an 'unmodified' model that can be picked up from a show room and verifies it.

I'd like to know what exactly do your reports suggest as a modified GT-R?

In regards to R32 / R33 / R34 the modifications centered around slicks (ie. not even R-spec tyres) and a lot more power.

In regards to the R35, some of the reports from the track claim the same for the R35.

Will be interesting to see how it does once it's released.

The drop from the 996 GT2 to the 997 GT2 is massive. That is very impressive. I wonder how the new 430 Scuderia is going to do. Is there an Enzo time ?

the 996 GT2 was on street tires, didnt have a stability system, and was heavier...

there is no Enzo time published... but word is, they had Michael drive it on the Ring, but couldnt crack the Carrera GT's time, so the time was never revealed...

The Veyron time is BS... it was an estimate from an Australian magazine.

Great list. It is porsche's home track. So it shouldn't be much of a surpise.

couple of surprises:
1. GT3 and RS has the same time.
2. 997 GT2 vs. 996 GT2.

Still fun to see the list comparing all the different companies.

The 997 GT2 vs 996 GT2 is a big difference. The tires can make a lot of difference though. The 997 is definitely faster and seems to be quite a bit less of a handful.

Yup, those Porsche designers are real creative, amazing what they have been able to do in 45 years...

Seems to me Ferrari has never gotten themselves stuck with a lack of fresh ideas...
Give me a break. The S2000 is such a boring car design. Nothing distinctive about it at all. It is the textbook definition of conservative styling.

The 911 styling is classic and refined. It's very much conservative but still looks great, just like the S2k. And at least, for its time, it looked like something special.

Besides, the reason why the 911 has been refined rather than redefined is because of the consumers.
