Porsche: Giving one back to the true enthusiasts

Wow! That is my front runner for an S2000 replacement. Kudos to Porsche for having the guts to produce it. I honestly can't think of another roadster that could compete. A better S2K than the S2K. The only downside is the price but again it has zero competition. Lotus? Nope. Vette? Nope. Miata? Nope. SLK? Nope. 370Z? Nope. Honda? Sadly another no!

Still don't see why it should be $4500 more than a Boxster S.
Seems to me that lighter-weight 17" wheels, perhaps with shorter tires (CR sizes?) would be more appropriate than 19" wheels if light weight is truly the goal. Could've saved on the order of another 12 - 16 lb., all of it unsprung/rotational, while reducing cost as well!
Another case where LIGHTER could and *should* also be cheaper.
Yeah, I think I'd sooner get a used Boxster S and decontent it myself...

That said, it would have to be my favorite Porsche, as, at 2811 lb. (without the PDK gearbox) it is the lightest-weight Porsche. That weight, with 320hp, sounds like FUN.
Understand that I criticise because I love!
Kind of a cynical excersize, maybe, as the CR perhaps is/was. But still, it's not like I hate the car or the idea.
Just think that 2800 lb. is appropriate for a 911, and that Boxster/Cayman should be down around 2400.
Smaller/simpler/cheaper/lighter!

The people questioning the existence of a convertible top, side windows, radio and air conditioning are severely missing the point of this car. It's a toy, quite literally.
No, you can not listen to your new CD on it. No, it won't be a good idea to go out on a day with a chance of rain. No, you will have very little recourse if it's boiling hot outside and you need a cool breeze of air. No, you're probably not going to go daily driving to and from work or the grocery store. This is not a first and only car. This probably isn't a second car, either. This is a third, fourth, or whatever car. This is for people who can afford to drop about 70 grand on a car and have it sit in the garage for most of its life, doing nothing, just waiting to be taken out on one of those perfect days.
There is no rationalization for this car or comparing to another car in any way, it would most likely lose. Most people want more practicality, most people would look for more performance per dollar. This is for that small percentage of people who just have the money to burn.
I think it's fantastic, and for the people that can enjoy such a car, life is good.

Porsche isn't stupid, they'll strip off everything like a/c, stereo, etc.... making a lightweight special edition, with a special (higher) price. Then charge to add back on those standard features as options that you'll pay for ala carte.

Uhm... why not just buy a boxster and strip it yourself? You could at least then sell it for parts.

Perfect sports car.
What could you ask more in your roadster?
Lightweight, powerful, nimble, great steering, great brakes, great sounding engine, looks good.
This is what the S2000 should have always been.
And there's no competition for it too. Sure there's the Lotus Elise supercharged, but the engine noises behind your ears are not as sweet as in the Porsche.
Fantastic.
