Outside of the IMS debacle Porsche engines are known to be pretty robust. I'll admit not Honda (in their heyday) robust, but pretty damn close. Enough to not have an unfounded fear like that.

Overall in my experience (which includes spending way too much time on rennlist) Porsche engine failures are rare, especially on the 09 and newer DFI models like the one I owned. However, I worried sometimes about bore scoring or other potential issues with the car since I owned it out of warranty (my worrying was fueled by paranoid rennlist forums, my indy said the engine was near bulletproof). A new engine done right would have been close to $20k for the 911. While that was not the reason I sold it, it factored in to my decision.
