We all know that Honda could make a $40k sports coupe that would crush this thing into rubble, if they really wanted to.
So could Kia or Porsche, what is the point of that? It is a Porsche.

Instead Honda continues down the path of NSX'ing the S2000. The class has moved on while 5 years later we still have the same car, only a bit less raw. High five Honda!

Read up in the post (if 0-60 is how you rate cars) the time listed is about the same as the Boxster S -- which has less horsepower.

It's called the NSX, and it is not exactly $40K. The Cayman S should have the same /better performance as the NSX.

[QUOTE=protokultur,May 25 2005, 06:41 PM] 0-60 in 5.something? for $60k isn't much bang for the buck these days.

Wait a second... By 'crush into rubble' I mean compete effectively at everything that makes an enthusiast car exist; quiddity - the point of being of a thing. Quid est veritas, Cayman (RM)S?

It's shocking how many people still judge a car by zero to sixty - many of them the same folk who will bash a Mustang GT to no end because it's one dimensional.

People are questioning weight - yet considering alternatives like M3

Cayman looks nice. $60K huh, by the time you finish adding options like $1200 xenon highlight, you will be paying $80k.

Damn, Porche are not for everyone!

Ben, you lucky bastard!

You can get a new Mustang GT for ~5K less than an S2000 that destroys it in a straight line - but it can't out handle the S.
FYI the mustang GT doesn't destroy a S2000 in a straight line, they're very close.

Mustang GTs 300hp 3500 lbs about the same power to weight as a S2000.

Mustang GT in several magazine tests 0-60 5.3sec-5.1sec 1/4 13.8sec-13.9@101mph

S2000 for example 5.5sc 14.1@99mph or 5.5sec/14sec I'd bet I can find tests of the S2000 that are as quick as the Mustang GT.

OK, the Mustang is a bit faster I'll grant you but it doesn't destroy the S2000, and the Mustang GT vert is a bit slower than the coupe.

Vroom, I'm not putting down the Cayman S, but it is a lot of money for a 295hp car.

I'm sure it's worth a lot b/c it handles great (better than a M3), but in the real world the M3 400hp for about the same price brings a lot to the table. And it's not like the M3 will be a bad handling car.

I'd be nice if if the Cayman was a light car like 2700-2800 lbs, that would go a long way to making up for it's price and/or low power.

If it's the same power and weight as a NSX and costs about $60K, it's a long way towards what some people call the NSX overpriced for it's performance.

I always thought the Boxster would look better as a coupe, and I really like what they did with the Cayman. The Boxster looked like it was driving backwards sometimes.
