i'll have to wait until i see it in person to really give an opinion, but don't think it looks that bad. fwiw, the 911s have never been one of those cars that i thougth was awesome looking. its performance and history gives it much of the applead, just the looks alone, it's not that great. and i dont see the resemblence too much excep the lights.

Same, I'm sure a modded 997 will be the new car. As of now the 996 Turbo / GT2 are my favorite Porsche... But before I bash, I'll wait and see.

and how is that similarity any different than back in the history Ferdinand Porsche designed 356 and bettle so similar to each other?

They were looking alike back then, they are looking alike today.. What's wrong???

I've never liked the 996, too much front overhang for me and those headlights are ugly, same as the Boxster.
The 993 was beautiful and Porsche ruined it.
The 997, like others have said, I will have to see in person, but so far I like.

Allright, I gotta get it off my chest.... To me, there is no lamer criticism than that car looks like ________. Talk about a well thought out jab. Why not offer some substantive analysis rather than just posting 2 pics and suggesting that one car is poorly designed because it looks like another? Yes, both cars have 2 round headlights with separate oblong turn lights underneath, but that's about where the similarities end. I can confidently say that no one will ever mistake a 997 for a New Beetle. To me, the 997 looks fantastic. I think it looks exactly like a 21st-century 911 should. All in all, the car looks much more solid and agressive than the somewhat melted jellybean 996.
