The trunk of the Solstice ruins it for me GXP or not - no fast grocery runs, no weekend getaways, no trips to the golf course, etc.
The looks of the Solstice really degrade when you put on a front license plate(source: Autoweek mag) and also when you put the top up.
Its also really hard for me to imagine GM making a car with a great manual tranny - I have too many memories of a notchy Saturn 5 speed.
Supposedly GM has been sourcing parts for the Solstice from all over its domain and this cost cutting negates the sporting character somewhat.
On the plus side I don't imagine it would be any less reliable than any other roadster on the market.

I'm not cheerleading for the Solstice, but while the trunk space concern is valid, I think you're nitpicking or flat or flat out wrong with the other two.

In my S2000 I always used the passenger seat for carrying large / bulky items.
Let me restate that: golf for 2, weekend getaway for 2, shopping for 2, etc.
Then don't run a front license plate. I haven't for years despite the fact that it's required in Washington State.
Without the plate you take your chances. The top still looks like it comes from a company that didn't give it much thought:

Reviewers have been universally positive about the Solstice's shifter.
I would bet 5:1 that it is not as good as the S' shifter, 2:1 that it is not a good as the Miata's but I will keep an open mind.

i have great hopes for this Solstice/Sky/Open GT (Speedster), especially if the Sky will also come equipped w/ the turbo'd ecotec4.

and that is why they sourced a Aisin transmission. same mfg as Miata's tranny. it's not just the transmission tho, it's also the clutch, lines, slave cylinder's etc. so we'll see. so far, as far as GRM magazine's concerned, they dig the Solstice.

but an aisin transmission does not make for a miata or S2000 quality transmission.
Though the solstice tranny is not bad, it is certainly not world class, either. It's above average at best.
