I am afraid I have to agree with bjohnston's assessment of Honda's future plan.

GXP comes with a bunch of standards that are options on the base... about 3-4K's worth in MSRP. I am guessing the starting MSRP price to be around 28K as well, plus "market adjustment" of course. Of course it will be more than competitive against the S2000; it'll certainly overtake it in acceleration.

There are many parts that the Solstice skimped on cost though. Not that S2000 has the most luxurious interior, but I have always found its material and fit & finish are of higher quality. Solstice's interior, while stylishly appealing, still has that same GM plastic material. Take the goods with the bads, I guess...

The Solstice I looked at in a GM showroom was this flimsy plastic looking and feeling car, more similar to the Fiero than the S2000.
The Fiero GT was a fun car. If the Solstice has Fiero GT bloodlines, that's good enough for me.

I think I'd still take the S2000 - that extra bit of straightline isn't worth the risk of buying a new, unproven car. That said, the Saturn Sky Redline is definitely more tempting than the Solstice GXP to me...

I think that the GXP will appeal to buyers who are shopping for a used late model roadster. They will be able to get a new car (and faster, at least on paper) for what a used S2000 will cost.

IMO the S is a better car, but if someone is counting their pennies, the Solstice may be a good alterative.

No one has any idea since it's not out. On paper though I would expect it to be every bit as fast, if not faster, then the S2000.

nothing wrong with a little competition. if gm does their homework at the nurburgring with this like they did with the z06, then i see no reason why it wouldn't be plenty quick around a track.

Where the Solstice will never be able to compete is in fit, finish and overall quality. Honda is an engine company. I can't see GM ever building an engine with the Quality or longevity of a Honda.

Why doesn't everyone just wait and see, I mean the damn thing isn't out yet and people are already talking about being able to out run it. For all you guys that think the S2K is the fastest thing put on this earth you need a reality check and take a look around and see actually how many cars are out there that can hang with us. Styling we may have the upper hand, but then isn't that personal opinion? Handling is where we have a definitive advantage on a majority of the competition, and that is slowly dwindling.

GM has done it for years with their 350 derivations. The 3800 series motors are known as bulletproof ... the iron duke, Ford 302 and 360 as well as the ecotec 4's .... your ignorance is not an excuse. Make foolish statements and look like a fool.

I don't have an S2000 YET!!!!!! , so no biase here. What is the weight of the solstice vs the s2000 ??? I only ask because my tt stealth is about 350 HP AWD and yet the 200 hp s2000 would give it a run for it's money because it is such a bahemoth. I understand the solstice is supposed to be a 2 seater car. Also is the solstice rear or front wheel drive?

Thanks, i'm learning.

Caleb

just found some other stuff, 0-60mph in 5.5 seconds i don't know what the s2000 is but that's pretty good in my books.

I like the features on the solstice too, and the turbo on top of it all stock.
