i thought the spokesperson at the NYC autoshow said there would be a GXP version with the LS3 and 6 speed manual...???

that would be a great ride for ~$35k

GTX? I think you mean GXP, and from what I've heard, there will be a GXP version out sometime this year, with a release soon. It will likely have the 400+ hp LS3, 6M trans, some flair, for about $36k.

$36k....

At any rate, here's a Winding Road write up too - http://magazine.windingroad.com/windingroa...&pm=1&u1=friend

So basically, if this was a coupe, it is what the GTO should have been.

When is this car coming out? My C&D and Motortrend all say released as the status but I 've yet to see one at any dealerships. Is it being delayed for some reason?

Basically. The GTO suffered from bland styling, plus the interior was not that well put together. The four-door, large sedan package will have wider appeal and usability.

Holden invested a billion dollars into the Commodore/G8, and its been the number one selling car in Australia for years at I think $50k, plus the Vauxhall in Europe, and its called a Lumina SS in the Middle East.

I like the G8 GT.

From what I have heard, I'll like the G8 GXP even more.

Its out now. GM shipped an initial 888 G8s, and there's one at my local dealer that I drove already, and regular production is arriving in the USA now. Apparently they are selling out quickly (normal for a new car), so seeing one on a lot might not happen for a month or so.

From what I've read, the regular G8 gets 25 mpg hwy, the GT 24 mpg hwy, and the GXP an expected 21-23 mpg hwy, depending on what final drive it gets.

Honestly, with 360 hp in the GT and 400+ in the GXP, I think the GT would be enough for me considering the power/mpg relationship, but we'll see.

mpg is a little on the low side for me, but for the price, I'd hit it. I really want to drive one but since I can't find one at a dealership I assume the test drive is kind of out of the question.
