Default Pontiac Fiero's legacy is "most popular kit car"?

I mean, come on... there's 3 ads alone in my local craigslist area!

Black Testarossa

Project Countach

Red Countach

and if that didn't convince you, here's a few selects from eBay

This is because the only really desirable Fiero is the 1988 model. Before '88 it used a Chevette front suspension, for 1988 Lotus engineered a new one for them. Wasting no time at all, Pontiac promptly cancelled the car once they got it right. I owned a 1987 model, it wasn't the worst thing to drive, never turned itself into a firebomb like some others did, and I loved the styling. Too bad 1988 models have held their values fairly well, I wouldn't mind having a 5-speed GT.

I'm a fan of the Fiero GT as well. I've never driven one, but they must be fun project cars, becuase I never see an unmodified one anymore.

Regarding the kit car aspect of Fiero lore, I don't really care for it. There are so many kits, and so few of which look even halfway decent. This is true though of just about any car with any sort of aftermarket bodykit industry behind it.

One mod becoming more common for Fiero GTs is removing the old 2.8 and replacing it with a 3.8 Series II. I'd be interested in how much power that Testarossa Fiero puts out though. the real Ferrari wheels is a nice touch.

I can't get the pictures to load up but I am sure you picked the worst of the worst as far as kit cars go. I had a 88 GT that had the factory 308 conversion done and it was a more reliable car then my S2000 ever was, and after driving a few early 308's it drove better to (No kidding) 50K miles with oil changes a real 308 could never do that, plus 28 mpg on the freeway, and air con that actually worked.

I have seen some amazing one offs built of fieros same as I have seen some amazing ones on vw's.

The kit car world is not the production world so there is always goping to be a shift in quality and well imagination.

Blasphemy... haven't you read a thread mentioning the Solstice yet? The consensus seems to be anything with a Pontiac badge on it will crumble to dust within minutes because it's made by GM. Conversely, any car put forth by Honda Motor Co. is a sparkling example of automotive perfection.

They can take a look at the damage to my S2000 when the tranny went south at 10K miles.

Gm builds some good cars, they just are few and far between. and when they finnaly get them right, l;ike the 88 fiero they cancel them.

They actually had a 89 fiero planned with a turbo, I have seen the prototype and it woudl have been a epic car, turbo + mid engine + lotus suspension. MMMMM
