It is no longer justifiable for the Vette to have an interior that looks like that when Fords new mid level models look the way they do (much better).

I don't understand why GM has such a hard time with the interior of the Corvette. It's no life mystery. More metal and leather and less plastic and commonly used parts!

Regarding that article I think it's complete BS. I think the Corvette is a great car and a performance bargain. I don't own one b/c I don't want to have to replace those big ass tires all the time ($$$). I've never driven one so maybe my opinion would change. I should drive one.

But for now my attainable sports car goal is a 2009 Cayman S...used in a few years when it's under $40k

I went to a car show a few years ago and sat in it. I jumped out of the car so fast it was just plain aweful!

The interior belongs to a $30K car, and that's it.

Well I just stood up for the interior a few posts ago but I have one question for you Vette owners. Do you have problems with the top of the widshield frame getting into your field of view. I adjust the seat to a point where I was comfortable and had an eyeful of windshield frame and I am only 5'6". The seating position just seemed to high and I thought I had the seat as low as it would go. That was the biggest interior drawback to me. I know an older dude who has a Vette convertible and he is 6'10". He only drives it around Pheonix with the top down because his head sticks out the top. He gets an eyefull of the same thing but he just says "you get used to it."

It's not really the quality of the interior that bothers me it's the design/aesthetics. I don't know what it is about GM and large rectangular center consoles and a assortment of square shapes + huge buttons?

Just look at the picture above, it appears as though 0 thought went into the interior. Just enough so that it's functional and that's that. There is so much wasted space and gaps of nothing'ness for no apparent reason.

But why does that really matter? More for you and lower resale. Maybe even incentive to improve the car? I don't see that as a negative.
You're right.

On a side note about interiors, took a drive in my buddy's e46 m3, love the seats, love the steering wheel, love the design of the interior, but the quality didn't impress me. It was a really hot day, the door handles creaked when I pushed on them, the area around the shfter felt very plasticy, switches were all really loose and not tight at all, but whatever.
I like M3s and I like vettes, I'd own an 08 if I could afford it without question.

The Corvette needs nicer materials.
Totally agreed. Nicer material and actual design cues from Cadillac or Buick (serious), would wow up the Corvette. But more importantly, they need a radical, radical new body line. Something that will make people stare, hard - in a nice way.

And by golly, don't do another throwback look from the 60s. Kids nowadays don't dream about cars from the 60s.

Even with nice materials tho, the current cockpit is arse. I don't see how anyone could look at that and go "Do want!"

[QUOTE=rockville,Oct 14 2009, 04:11 PM] Ironically the wheel is the only parts bin part I see in the Corvette interior is the wheel. The radio and hvac look parts bin but I don't see any car that uses the same parts.

what will happen in 20~30 years when all the Vette fans are gone?

Dan
GM got so much right with the C6, it just needs an interior that can compete. Hopefully the C7 will finally offer the complete package, complete with the better interiors GM has implemented in its Malibu, Cadillacs, and SUVs. aka The Lutz touch. Such a car would draw new fans imo.
